The beautiful Bay of Island - Northland - New Zealand

The Bay of Islands

Map of New Zealand with Bay of Islands

Top local adventures include cruising to the ‘hole in the rock’ at the tip of Cape Brett, finding dolphins (and maybe swimming with them) and sea kayak tours. Paihia is also just down the road from the historic Treaty House at Waitangi, which marks the beginning of New Zealand as a nation. Just west of Paihia is Haruru, where you’ll find an impressive waterfall and a boardwalk.

Paihia - Bay of Islands

The Bounty Inn in Paihia offers ideal holiday accommodation in a central location 500m from the town centre, restaurants, wharf and tourist attractions. From the wharf you can arrange a trip to the outer islands, hook into a fishing expedition or catch the ferry to Russell.

The townships of this historical bay are alive with memories of the area's colourful history. Visitors are welcome to explore the well-preserved relics of the past, both Maori and European, in romantic Russell, Paihia, Waitangi or Kerikeri. Wherever you are in the Bay of Islands, it's impossible to escape the lure of the sea.

Catch a ferry or charter boat and immerse yourself in the blue-green world of island and beach. Or paddle a sea kayak in and out of island nooks and crannies. Swimming with dolphins is another specialty of the Bay of Islands.
